First Aid Training

What would your staff do if there was an emergency on your jobsite?   All employers covered by WSIB are required to have first aid equipment, and trained personnel in all workplaces.    GVCA is offering the CANADIAN RED CROSS WORKPLACE STANDARD FIRST AID TRAINING & CPR course that meets the OHS regulations.    This course will cover comprehensive First Aid and CPR techniques and AED (Automated External Defibrillation.)  Upon successful completion of the course you will earn a 3 year certification in Standard First Aid & CPR Level A. 

Basics of Supervising

 

This course will cover Elements of Supervision, Motivation and Communication, and legal Responsibilities. Supervisors have a key role to play in reducing the frequency of injuries and fatalities in our industry.  Legally, they have very specific responsibilities regarding health and safety.  This program has been designed to make you aware of your supervisory responsibilities and to provide you with information on how to exercise them effectively. It provides you with an introduction to basic management skills and provides you with information on how to communicate effectively.

WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System)

This program is a generic overview of WHMIS. (Employers must provide additional WHMIS training tailored to the specific materials workers may encounter. Topics include:

  • Legislative requirements
  • Responsibilities of workplace parties
  • Information delivery
  • Worker education and training
  • Occupational health
  • Recognition, assessment, and control options

We will issue wallet cards to participants who successfully complete the performance reviews and attend the entire session.

Fall Protection

This program provides workers with the basic knowledge required to work safely in areas exposed to fall hazards.

Upon completion, participants will be able to recognize fall hazards and identify and apply fall protection controls. A review of legislative requirements will also be discussed.

 

This program will not cover site-specific equipment and procedures. A wallet card will be provided upon successful completion.

Confined Space Awareness

Upon completion, participants will be able to identify confined spaces and demonstrate knowledge of legislative requirements and general procedures for confined space entry.

Topics include:

  • Definition of confined space
  • Hazards related to confined spaces
  • Types of dangerous atmospheres
  • Legal requirements
  • Assessment and control options
  • Monitoring strategies
  • Entry permits and procedures.
