Finance Minister Dwight Duncan's fall economic statement set for Thursday is expected to contain a dose of reality in the light of recent media stories trumpeting the beginning of the recovery of the global economy.

The WSIB, partnering with the CSAO, has developed a new Construction Exposure Incident Reporting program (CEIR) for employers and workers.  The Office of the Employer Advisor believes the program is modeled after the WSIB's Program for Exposure Incident Reporting (PEIR) for general exposure reporting and was unaware of any industry consultation undertaken to establish the CEIR program.  COCA was also unaware of this program's development.

On October 14, 2009 the Ministry of Finance released the General Transitional Rules for Ontario HST.  The HST, subject to legislative approval, will come into effect on July 1, 2010.

Ontario's new distracted driving law will make it illegal for motorists to use hand-held wireless communication devices or any hand-held electronic entertainment devices while driving.  This will include hand-held cell phones, texting and e-mailing. 

During a November blitz, health and safety inspectors will concentrate on transportation, education, industrial services, retail and wholesale workplaces.
