Construction In Ontario - January 2010 Edition
2010-01-20

The recession-fuelled economy has prompted the Construction Sector Council to release a preview of its 2010 Construction Looking Forward forecasts.

Let me begin this writing by wishing you a happy, healthy and prosperous new year.  It appears from many of the economic forecasts that 2010 may be full of all of the challenges of 2009 and possibly more.

The Ministry of Labour will be holding stakeholder consultations to review 2009 achievements and to map out direction for its 2010 Safe At Work Ontario program January 29, 2010 from 9:30am-11:30am at the Centre for Health and Safety Innovation presentation centre, 5110 Creekbank Road, Mississauga.

The amalgamation of the Construction Safety Association of Ontario (CSAO), Electrical & Utilities Safety Association (EUSA) and the Transportation Health and Safety Association of Ontario (THSAO) into the new Infrastructure Health and Safety Association began January 1st following a successful ratification vote in early December.

In late December, the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities made changes to the hourly tuition maximum for three of its classifications of programs.

November building permits were valued at $5.9 billion, off 4.6% from October, but still 23.1% higher than November 2008 and 62.8% higher than February 2009 as non-residential intentions more than offset gains in the residential construction market.
