Mahoney Report Concludes Dialogue Must Continue

More than a year ago, WSIB Chair Steve Mahoney embarked upon a process of broad and meaningful consultation with a wide range of his organization's stakeholders.  Through this process, Chair Mahoney held more than 45 meetings and received more than 70 written submissions.  Through participation in the Ontario Business Coalition, the Employers Council of Ontario and the Construction Industry WSIB Task Force, COCA was actively involved in this consultation process on your behalf. 

 

 

Second Ontario case of criminal charges laid for worker death under C-45

Charges of criminal negligence causing death relating to the death of a Sault Ste. Marie city worker 10 months ago have been laid against Millennium Crane rentals, a crane owner, the crane operator and another individual after the crane collapsed into a 3-metre deep hole where the deceased was working last April.

 

 

McGuinty's Open Ontario Plan to redefine and reassert Ontario's prominence

The Lieutenant Governor this afternoon delivered the provincial government's Speech from the Throne, marking the beginning of the second half of Premier Dalton McGuinty's second mandate. 

 

 

COCA attends 2010 Heritage Dinner

This year for the time, COCA attended and was a platinum sponsor for the Ontario Heritage Dinner as part of its profile building strategy with the Ontario government.  COCA was please to host Environment Minister John Gerretsen and his Chief of Staff, Sabrina Grando at its table for the evening.

 

WSIB revives and implements new departments

The WSIB has created one new department, revived an old one and is moving some senior staff.

Non-Residential Building Permits down in January

January building permits were valued at $5.7 billion, a decline of 4.9% from December, but still 32.7% higher than the level in January 2009.  The December to January decline is due mainly to a drop in building intentions in the non-residential sector.
