Job Description
A Landscape Architect works for many types of organizations, such as real estate, development firms, municipalities or construction companies. A Landscape Architect is a professional who designs, plans and manages the land by applying both art and science. They also provide consulting services, prepare plans, and facilitate projects that create a balance between the needs and wants of people and the limitations of the environment. Areas of specialization include landscape design, site planning, urban design, regional landscape planning, parks and recreation, land development planning, ecological planning and design including bio-engineering, heritage conservation, landscape reclamation and restoration, social/behavioral aspects of landscape design for special user needs.
Education Requirements
In order to become a professional Landscape Architect in
To become a Landscape Architect, one needs:
- Grade 12 completion
- Complete a Bachelor's or Master's degree (4, 5 years in length) in Landscape Architecture from a university program recognized by OALA or a 3-year diploma in Landscape Architectural Technology.
- Check with the school of your choice for specific high school courses and admission grades.
- There might also be a high passing grade for the university courses provided. (Also check with the school of your choice).

- Complete a minimum of 2 years internship in OALA's professional development program (PDP) if you have a university degree, or a minimum of 4 years if you have a diploma.
