Job Description

 

A Surveyor determines natural and man-made features of the surface of the earth and the storage and representation of such features on a chart, map, plan or graphic representation. Cadastral or legal surveyor advises on, reports on, conducts or supervises the conducting of surveys to establish, locate, define or describe lines, boundaries or corners of parcels of land or land covered with water. Professional surveying also includes the branches of geodesy, photogrammetry and hydrography.

 

Education Requirements

·        Grade 12 completion

·        Bachelor?s degree in Geomatics Engineering or Survey Engineering or a college diploma in Survey Science or Geomatics (Check the Engineering Career Description for more information of how to acquire the degree/diploma and high school courses and grades required for enrolment in the specific program).

·     A federal or provincial license is required to work as a surveyor in Canada. The licensing is available through the Association of Canada Lands Surveyors - Ottawa, Ontario, Tel: (613) 723-9200. Web: http://www.acls-aatc.ca/ENGLISH/pemit&licence/permit-and-licence.htm.

·        Additional license is required for specific area, such as national parks, Aboriginal lands and northern territories.
