Job Description
A Surveyor Technician or Technologist records measurements in the field, uncovers physical, historical and documentary evidence and drafts plans for the Ontario Surveyor to check and sign.
Education Requirements
To become a Surveyor Technician or Technologist one needs:
- Grade 12 completion
- 1 to 2 years community or technical college program in Survey Technology is required for Technical Surveyor.
- 2 to 3 years community or technical college program in Survey Technology is required for Technologist Surveyor.
- Check with the school of your choice for specific high school programs and grades to enter the program
- Supervised work experience is required before certification, usually 2 years.
- Certification in Survey Technology or a related field through provincial/territorial chartered association of engineering/applied science technologists and technicians credited by the Association of Architectural Technologists of Ontario may be required in some provinces, and highly recommended in others, since some employers may require it.
