Engineer Technician/Technologist

 

Job Description

 

This position functions as part of the engineering team in one of the 13 major disciplines including chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical or environmental technological functions. They can perform technical and supervisory functions in support of engineering and scientific activities. Levels of responsibilities range from project manager or maintenance-engineer supervisor to consulting on their own. Technologists? duties would include measurement and analysis, design, supervision of field installations and quality control. Technicians do similar work that is less complex but highly specialized.

 

Education Requirements

 

In order to be qualified as a Technician/Technological Engineer one has to register with and become certified by the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists. The requirements to do so are:

  • The completion of an Engineering or Applied Science Technology program from a recognized Ontario or Canadian college
    • 2 years for Engineer Technician
    • 3 years for Engineer Technologist
  • Passing of the Professional Practice Examination administered by the OACETT, at the end of the studying period.
  • Complete of a minimum of 24 months of on-the-job training
