Job Description
Demolition workers are involved in a wide variety of projects, including: the structural demolition of buildings, interior gutting of offices, equipment dismantling and salvage and hazardous materials remediation. In addition, they are involved in tearing down anything from high-rise apartment buildings to factories or bridges. Their work requires a range of skills, from manual activities to the use of small tools and specialized equipment to the operation of heavy construction machines. The destruction of the buildings requires the use of specific machines and equipment, and may also involve the use of explosives.
Education Requirements
To become a Demolition Worker, one can take an Apprentice Program. Some requirements to do so are:
· Grade 12 completion is preferred, with courses in Math, English, Science and Technology.
· 3,600 on-the-job hours (approximately 2 years)
· This is a non-regulated occupation
Schools in
Since this job is more of on-the-job training, there are no schools specifically dedicated to the Demolition career. However, courses in Math, English, Science subjects and Design and Technology or equivalent vocational qualifications such as Edexcel Introductory Certificate/Diploma in Construction are recommended and could be taken during high school or at the different regional construction colleges.
