Job Description

 

A Tile/Terrazzo/Marble Setter prepares and installs various ceramic, marble, quarry, mosaic or terrazzo tiles on interior and exterior floors, walls, ceilings for residential, commercial, industrial, institutional or other types of buildings. He/She also prepares and applies bonding materials, designs or marks out designs on wall of floor surfaces, cuts and lays tiles and terrazzo.

 

Education requirements

 

  • Grade 12 completion preferred, with courses in English and Mathematics.   
  • An apprenticeship includes:
  • 3.5 to 4 years of 5,600 hours of supervised work, divided as:
    • 360 hours of in class, studying the basics of the field (9 weeks in length).
    • 360 hours of in class, studying more advance in the field (9 weeks in length).
    • 4,880 hours on-the-job training, being supervised by a qualified employer.
  • Upon finishing this apprenticeship program, a Certification in the field is available.
    • The certification can be received upon an examination at the local trade schools (Check the Schools in Canada section for more information on where you can go for the examination for Certification)
    • However, this Certification is not required in all of the Canadian Provinces, but highly recommended.
  • This is a non-regulated occupation
