Job Description

 

A Steamfitter lays out, assembles, installs, repairs and maintains piping for high and low pressure steam, hot water heating systems, cooling systems, systems that convey gas and tubing for pneumatic and air-handling systems in large residential complexes, industrial facilities, nuclear plants and commercial and office buildings. He/she also reads and understands designs, drawings, and manufactures? literature and insulation diagrams.

 

Education Requirements

 

  • Grade 12 completion
  • Four years apprenticeship, including at least 6,000 working hours under the supervision of a qualified employee. Four 8-week block of technical training is also required
  • Final examination for certification at the end of the apprenticeship is available, being required in only some of the provinces.
  • A Red Seal Certification is also available and required for work outside the province.
  • This is a compulsory, regulated occupation
