Job Description

 

Floor Covering Installers work for both retail installers and installing contractors. They install carpeting, wood flooring, linoleum, vinyl and other floor coverings in residential, commercial, industrial and institutional buildings. This career may also involve refinishing and resurfacing existing materials, especially wood.

 

Education Requirements

 

    • Grade 12 completion with courses in Algebra, Business Arithmetic, Mechanical Drawing and Shop.
  • A Floor Covering Installer apprenticeship includes a minimum of 4,400 hours on-the-job training and two 6 weeks technical training periods.

      • The apprenticeship teaches layouts, architectural drawings, and other skills of the trade.

    o        Final examination for certification is also available.

    §         One can be eligible for certification after the successful completion of the apprenticeship.

    §         With a certification on the field, one can be eligible to attempt the Interprovincial Exam to qualify for the Interprovincial Standards? Red Seal, which allows one to work as a Floor Covering Installer anywhere across Canada.
