Job Description

 

Painters and Decorators apply paint and other organic and inorganic coatings to the interior and exterior of commercial, industrial and residential buildings. They also apply various water and air barrier seals and wall coverings. Other duties include preparation of surfaces, smoothing of finished surfaces and determining quantity and materials required. Repairing cracks and holes in walls, mixing and thinning paint, building and installing scaffolding, providing cost estimates, reading specifications to determine required materials are part of this career.

 

Education Requirements

 

To pursue a career as Painter or Decorator, one can gain his experience and training necessary through an apprenticeship program. The Apprenticeship program?s requirements are:

 

  • Grade 12 completed
  • Completion of 5,400 hours of work experience, with 22 weeks of in-class technical training (this may take around 3 years).
  • A Red Seal certification is available (not require) to be able to work all across Canada
