Job Description

 

A Mechanical Insulator prepares and installs various types of mechanical insulation materials in commercial and industrial buildings.  They may also remove asbestos in various buildings. Some of the jobs that an Insulator performs are: stapling, taping , spraying, cementing and fastening with wire bands, measure and cutting insulation material to the proper size and shape to cover the installations with materials such as sheet metal to protect it from being damaged by weather or other forces.

 

Education Requirements

 

  • Minimum Grade 12 education
  • Completion of 3 periods of 2,000 hours (6,000 hours in total) with 900 hours of technical training.
  • Examination required after finishing the apprenticeship to qualify as a certified Insulator journeyperson.
  • As a Certified Insulator, one is eligible for the Red Seal certification Examination that would allow work all across Canada.
