Job Description

 

As a Plumber, one installs and maintains pipes and fittings for the flow of water, gasses and other fluids in all types of domestic and industrial structures. He/she also installs and repairs septic systems, plumbing fixtures, combustible fuel systems, above and below-ground potable water systems, above-ground sanitation, storm and waste systems, pumps and water treatment systems, fire protection systems and hot water heating systems.

 

Education Requirements

 

  • Grade 12 completion:
    • Grade 12 English ( applied or academic)
    • Grade 12 Mathematics (applied or academic)
    • Solid background in science
  • Have an Apprenticeship agreement with a suitable employee
  • Completion of 5 periods with 1,800 hours of training (9,000 hours in total with 720 hours allocated towards in-school training ? this may take from 4 to 5 years in length).
  • Pass a final examination for the Plumber Certification.
  • A Red Seal Examination for work all across Canada is also available upon another examination.
  • This is a compulsory, regulated occupation
