Job Description

 

Refrigeration/Air Conditioning Mechanic act like doctors for air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. Whenever it breaks down, they diagnose the problem and solve it. They do so by testing parts such as compressors, relays, and thermostats to help them identify the problem. Therefore, an Air Conditioning Mechanic installs, assembles and repairs components of large and small refrigeration and air-conditioning systems in residential, commercial and industrial settings. He/she also assembles or connects required refrigeration pipes and performs a maintenance routine to the specified equipments. 

 

Education Requirements

 

  • Grade 12 completion
  • Agreement with a suitable employer certified in this field
  • Completion of 9,000 hours of work experience (this might take 4.5 years to 5 years). The apprenticeship program includes both on-the-job training and in class studies.   
  • Successfully pass the final examination to receive the certification as a Refrigeration/Air Conditioning Mechanic.
  • An Interprovincial Standards? Red Seal Certification is available after the Refrigeration/Air Conditioning Mechanic Certification has been achieved. The Interprovincial Certification will allow work all across Canada.

This is a compulsory, regulated occupation
