Professional Renovation Contractor
Job Description
A Professional Renovation Contractor, as the name implies, has the overall responsibility of a renovation project. They negotiate the agreement of the project and sign the contract with the clients. He/she acts as General Contractor for clients (home owners, property managers, commercial store owners, architects etc.) wishing to substantially upgrade or remodel their building. Professional renovation contractors are skilled and experienced in projects management, building science, design, business management, sales and marketing.
Education Requirements
- Grade 12 completion
- On the job experience is the key in becoming a trusted Professional Renovation Contractor, since many clients want references of past projects. This can be achieved through apprenticeship programs that require working experience under the supervision of a qualified journeyperson.
- Building or other construction experience is also highly recommended
- Renovation or construction courses offered through various community colleges can also be a good asset to start with.
- A degree in Architectural Science is also recommended and can be beneficial.
- An apprenticeship in carpentry is recommended:
- 4 years in length
- Completion of 7,200 hours on the job training under the supervision of a qualified carpenter ? 3 eight weeks in-school sessions.
