Architectural Technologist
Job Description
Architectural Technologists work very closely with architects as part of the construction management team. They are the link between the architects ideas and reality. They monitor the quality of work, the materials used in construction as well as the performance of the project in time and cost. They may work independently and perform a variety of duties, such as assisting the development of architectural designs, analyzing building codes, legal requirements, and preparing the 3D models of architectural designs. May also work with government agencies in area of administration, code enforcement or facilities management.
Education requirements
To become an Architectural Technologist completion of a
· two- to three-year college program in architectural technology or a related subject is required along with
· structured professional and occupational experience, and
· accreditation through the Association of Architectural Technologists of Ontario.
- ENG4C or ENG4U, or Grade 12 English at or above the general level.
- MCT4C or MGA4U or MCB4U or MDM4U, or Grade 12 Mathematics MTT-4G or MAT-4A at or above the general level, or a more senior mathematics credit.
- Grade 12 College and Apprenticeship Mathematics (MAP4C) with a Grade 11 Functions (MCF3M) or Grade 11 Functions and Relations (MCR3U). Otherwise, a math assessment will be required.
- Experience and skill in working with word processing and spreadsheet applications is also required.
- If lacking the requisite computer skills a computer course would be recommended.
College Requirements
3 years in length, focusing on areas such as:
- production of presentation
- construction drawings
- building codes and specifications
- CAD drafting and applications
- construction methods
- architectural design techniques
- modern construction practices
