The Grand Valley Construction Association (GVCA) offers a variety of in-class construction courses. These courses will help you develop industry intelligence and grow your business; and many of them will help you toward Gold Seal certification. These courses are held in our dedicated training rooms. However, if a member has a large enough group that they wish to enroll in a given course, we can arrange to have the instructor come to the member's facility, if they so choose.

Construction 201: Project Manager and Field Supervisor Master Class - June 12 & 19, 2019

Adjudication and Prompt Payment - September 10, 2019

In this one-day course, you will be introduced to the new rules of prompt payment under Bill 142, the new Construction Act, which will come into effect in October 2019. Additionally, you'll receive an overview of the mechanics of the adjudication process and when it is automatically or voluntarily triggered.

Advanced Microsoft Project for Construction

This two-day course is ideal for project managers, estimators, and site supervisors who have used Basic MS Project and understand the need for good project tracking. You will learn how to create an easy two-week look-ahead schedule in order to work effectively with workers and subtrades on a job site. It should take no more than a few mouse clicks to let trades know when they should be on-site, or to demonstrate to clients what effect a particular change will have on scheduling and costing.

Close-Out of a Construction Project

Why would a contractor, owner consultant, or subcontractor need to know best practices for closing out a construction project? The answer is simple: if you can't get the project done, then you can't reach substantial performance or total performance, which are two of the most difficult milestones to achieve. This one-day course will discuss how the principles of organizing early, teamwork, and communication work together to achieve a successful project close-out.

This may sound like a basic beginner course, but is in fact a comprehensive two-day program ideal as a refresher for contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and even administrative staff. Construction Drawings and Specifications 

This two-day course will help you better understand how to read all of the information of the various disciplines of drawings. Using a small commercial building as a sample, architectual, structural, mechanical, electrical, and landscape drawings are coordinated and evaluated.
