Subject: Support Local Physician Recruitment – An Ongoing Crisis in our Community

As business and community leaders, we all understand that a healthy workforce is the backbone of a thriving economy. Across the Region, thousands of families are currently without access to a family physician, an issue that directly impacts the productivity, well-being, and sustainability of our local businesses and labour force.

That’s why the Greater Kitchener Waterloo Chamber of Commerce’s Physician Recruitment Program exists. Since its inception, this community initiative has worked tirelessly to attract and retain family doctors to our region, helping ensure our community members—your employees, their families, and future talent have access to timely, essential primary care.

Construction is a people-first industry. When workers or their families can’t access a family physician, they often turn to emergency departments, miss work for appointments out of town, or struggle with undiagnosed or unmanaged health concerns. This affects job performance, morale, retention, and safety on job sites. Ensuring access to primary care is not just a public health issue, it’s a workforce and economic imperative.

Thanks to community support, our program, which the Chamber hosts on behalf of the community has successfully welcomed over 300 family doctors since 1998. But the need continues to grow. As our region expands, so does the need for more physicians. Currently, more than 100,000 residents in our region don’t have access to a family physician. We need your help to continue this important work.

We are asking GVCA members to consider making a financial contribution to the Chamber’s Physician Recruitment Program. Your financial contribution will directly support efforts to market our region to prospective physicians, host recruitment events, and offer settlement support for doctors and their families choosing to make Kitchener-Waterloo their home.

Your support is not just an investment in healthcare, it’s an investment in the long-term strength and stability of your workforce, your businesses, and the vibrant community we all share.
