TURNING WASTE INTO VALUE: GVCA BRINGS THE REUSE COLLECTIVE TO OUR REGION

The construction industry is changing quickly. Clients, codes, and communities are all demanding smarter, more sustainable practices — and waste is at the top of the list. Every project generates surplus, returns, offcuts, and demolition debris, much of which still has value. The question is: how do we capture that value instead of sending it to landfill?

That’s why GVCA has partnered with Green Salvaged Materials (GSM) to bring the ReUse Collective to our region.

The ReUse Collective was created to help owners, developers, builders, and contractors systematically shift from a waste pile to a reuse pile. It is both a collaborative network and a practical system:

    • Collaboration: Members come together through workshops and working groups to share lessons, shape solutions, and align on best practices for integrating reuse into projects.
    • Marketplace: GSM’s new Marketplace provides a platform to exchange materials across projects — from new construction surplus to reusable elements from existing buildings — making reuse not only possible, but profitable.

GVCA’s role is to help bring our members into this initiative early, so you can benefit from the systems being put in place and ensure they work for our region’s construction community. This isn’t just about sustainability — it’s about operational efficiency, cost savings, and industry leadership. The Collective will also position our members to stay ahead of evolving codes, standards, and client expectations around waste diversion and circular construction.

We see this as an opportunity for our members to unlock new value while helping lead the transition toward circular practices in construction. By being part of the ReUse Collective, you’ll not only reduce costs and carbon, you’ll also be shaping the marketplace and systems that will define the future of building in Ontario.

GVCA is running — not walking — to get our members engaged in this effort, and we invite you to join us.

To learn more and get connected to the ReUse Collective and GSM Marketplace, reach out to GVCA or directly to the GSM team. Let’s turn waste into opportunity, together.
