**NOTICE**
Changes to the Requirement for Timing of Payment of Building Permit Application Fees
The timing of the building permit fee is changing to payment at the time of application. This is due to increased abuse wherein staff completes a permit review and then the project is subsequently cancelled. To curb this we will be implementing payment at the time of application.
As indicated in section 8 of the prescribed Building Permit Application form in order to be considered a complete application; payment made of all fees that are required, under the applicable by-law, resolution or regulation made under clause 7(1)(c) of the Building Code Act, 1992, is to be paid when the application is made.
Commencing June 1, 2019, the Building Division will require that all building permit applications, made in person or by courier, will require the building permit fee be paid at the time of application or have the permit fee paid within 48 hours of application in order to be considered complete.
Only the building permit fee will be required at the time of application. Development Charges and other such fees will be calculated and invoiced through the building permit review process. The fee schedule can be found on the City of Kitchener website https://www.kitchener.ca/en/building-and-development/permit-fees.aspx#Building-permit-fee
This requirement does not apply to low-rise residential Building Permit Applications made through the online portal at this time.
Please be advised that online applicants who abuse the privilege of being able to pay upon pick-up may have that privilege revoked.
Should there be any questions regarding this change of process please do not hesitate to contact us directly.
