As some employers and principals already know, the WSIB e-services has been working at a very slow pace. You may have seen the following message:

For construction employers, this most significantly impacts access to clearance, and if a principal can't pull a clearance, the contractor may as well shut its door.

Calling the WSIB is not typically a useful exercise, as there have also been complaints of long wait times to get to someone who can help. However, the WSIB website offers another option. WSIB has an employer accounts email address that promises to be more expedient. An employer or principal can follow the instructions below, offered by WSIB, for a clearance, and it should result in a speedier outcome.

 If you need a clearance:

  • Email at including the following information:
    • legal name and account number of the contractor;
    • legal name and/or account number of the principal; and
    • include a contact name, fax number or email address where you would like the clearance sent.
  • Or, call WSIB at 416-344-1000 or 1-800-387-0750 (TTY: 1-800-387-0050).
