GVCA Presidents Message November

Moving Development Forward with Focus, Vision, and Action

Resulting from the most recent municipal elections, the message was loud and clear that change is required.  With newly elected municipal governments comes an opportunity to reset priorities, strengthen relationships and establish a clear vision for the future. For the construction industry, this is particularly important as we face ongoing challenges with housing affordability, infrastructure investment, workforce shortages, and lengthy development approval processes.

As an industry, we rely on early and continual engagement with city staff and elected officials, building meaningful relationships and positioning ourselves as partners in finding solutions. Construction is a major driver of our local economy, creating jobs, attracting investment, and building the infrastructure our growing communities depend on.

However, progress requires more than good intentions. We cannot afford another four years of studies, consultations, and delayed decisions. We need clear priorities, streamlined approvals, realistic timelines, and greater accountability at City Hall.

Our role is not simply to advocate for the construction industry, but to demonstrate how a strong construction sector benefits the entire community. Every delayed project represents lost economic opportunity, jobs and much-needed housing and infrastructure.

By bringing industry expertise, practical solutions, and a shared sense of urgency to the table, we can help our newly elected leaders move beyond process and turn vision into action. The opportunity is here and now. Now we need the leadership and commitment to remove barriers and get things built.
