Women in Construction at GVCA: Growing Stronger in 2026

As we step into 2026, our Women in Construction (WinC) Committee at the Grand Valley Construction Association (GVCA) is entering an exciting new chapter.

Over the past few months, we’ve intentionally restructured the committee to better reflect the leadership model of our GVCA Board. This shift brings greater clarity, accountability, and purpose to the work we’re doing and positions us to create even more meaningful impact across our membership.

We’re proud to welcome nine new committee members, creating a dynamic and diverse group of leaders. What makes this year especially unique is the makeup of the committee itself. We now have representation from:

  • General contractors

  • Subtrades

  • Service providers

  • And, for the first time ever, two women who are currently working on site

Having women who are actively working in the field join the committee is a significant and exciting step forward. Their lived experience will help shape our programming in new and practical ways, ensuring that our events and initiatives speak to women across all areas of our industry—from the office to the job site.

Our goal is simple: to build a stronger, more connected women’s network within GVCA by bringing both perspectives together.

Listening to Our Members

Recently, we sent a survey to members who have attended Women in Construction events in the past. We asked what they valued most, what they’d like to see more of, and what makes it easier for them to attend.

Three themes clearly emerged:

  1. Stories that inspire and teach.
Members want to hear real stories—about overcoming obstacles, navigating career transitions, leading teams, and defining success on their own terms. There is power in shared experience, and we’re committed to creating space for those conversations.

  2. Leadership development.
There’s a strong appetite for practical tools—skills and strategies women can take back to their workplaces to grow in their careers and lead with confidence.

  3. Meaningful connection.
Networking continues to be a priority, but with intention. We heard clearly that members want opportunities to meet new people—not just stay within the circles they already know. Moving forward, we’ll be more deliberate about designing events that spark conversation and help expand networks in authentic ways.

These insights are directly shaping our 2026 programming.

We’re thrilled to share that Beth Marchant will serve as Chair of the Women in Construction Committee this year. Beth brings thoughtful leadership, industry insight, and a genuine passion for building community. We know she will do an incredible job guiding this group forward.

Kicking Off 2026: Foundations to Grow

We’re excited to launch the year with our first Women in Construction event:

Foundations to Grow

📅 March 25

📍 GVCA, 25 Sheldon

🕕 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM

This evening will focus on growth.

Guests will enjoy a gourmet taco bar and drinks, connect with peers across the industry, and take part in a hands-on terrarium-building experience. The terrarium theme reflects our focus for the year: cultivating growth, nurturing relationships, and creating environments where women in construction can thrive.

The event will also include an opportunity to meet the newly formed Women in Construction Committee, followed by a panel discussion where members will share insights about their own career journeys, what growth means to them in 2026, and how we can collectively support one another moving forward.

We believe this will be a powerful way to start the year—bringing women together across roles, companies, and career stages to build something stronger, together.

As always, thank you to our members for your continued support and engagement. We’re excited about what’s ahead and look forward to growing with you in 2026.
